FAQs

Have questions about our ministry, guest accommodations, or how to get involved? We’ve gathered answers to help you plan your visit and learn more about our mission to serve those who serve.

Are you affiliated with any particular denomination?

The Haven Missionary Care Center is a non-denominational ministry to evangelical, Christ-following missionaries, pastors, and ministry leaders.

How much does it cost per night for missionaries to visit The Haven?

We do not “charge” a set fee for our guests. However, we greatly appreciate your considering a donation so we can continue offering this ministry to more missionaries, pastors, and ministry leaders. A suggested donation of $25/day per teen and adult guests, covers our basic costs of providing internet and other utilities. You may use the “DONATIONS” button on our website if you like.

What is there to do while visiting The Haven?

While visiting The Haven, our prayer is that each guest be ministered to by the Holy Spirit. There is no specific agenda for your activities although we do encourage that you take plenty of time to rest and catch your breath. We will provide details regarding shopping, restaurants, and recreation in our area in our welcome binder provided in each guest room. Again, the goal of The Haven is to provide a place for you to meet with the Lord and refresh spiritually and physically. If you want to get away to the Outer Banks or Millpond State Park with your family for a day, we have information (and even beach towels!) – just ask. We also provide debriefing and biblical counseling upon request.

Do you have Bible study materials and books available for the use of your guests?

Yes, we have built an extensive library of books and DVDs for that purpose. You are welcome to use our library during your visit; however, these items are not available for you to check out and take with you. We also have a large assortment of children’s books, games, and puzzles.

Can we bring our pets?

No. We are unable to accommodate pets. If you are accompanied by a service animal, you will be asked if your disability requires a service animal. Please state on your ‘Request for Accommodations” form the specific tasks your service animal is trained to perform in order to aid you in your disability. If you are accepted as our guest, you must keep your service animal with you at all times. If you arrive with a service or comfort animal without stating thus on your “Request for Accommodations” form, you may be refused entry and be directed to a local motel (20 minutes away) for accommodations.

Do your facilities accommodate handicapped guests?

Access to our guest quarters requires climbing 16 steps. If your handicap will not allow that climb, then we regret that we will not be able to accommodate you.

Are meals provided?

Depending on the time of your arrival, we may provide a meal, snack or beverage. We provide basics (condiments, spices, flour, sugar, eggs, coffee, tea, etc) but other than these, you will need to bring your own food items and prepare your own meals during your time at The Haven. You will have use of our well equipped kitchen, including refrigerator/freezer and shelf space. Be aware that if other guests are present, you will be sharing the living room and kitchen facilities. Also, Bob and Ann Tayloe live in Cheza Shalom, our guest house, and will be using the kitchen at times – usually breakfast only. Groceries are available at nearby shops or at our closest Walmart/Food Lion/Piggly Wiggly (about 20 minutes away). There are two local restaurants with limited hours within 10 miles and a variety of fast food establishments in the nearby town of Ahoskie.

How long can we stay?

Guests are welcome to stay for a maximum of two weeks. Keep in mind that The Haven is much more than a place to find lodging in your travels. We encourage at least a two-night visit in order to accomplish the ministry for which we believe God has set us apart. Our vision is to see Christian missionaries, pastors, and ministry leaders refreshed through personal and spiritual renewal. Our prayer is for you to rise to your full potential of ministry as you return to your field of service.

What do we need to bring with us?

We provide towels, bed linens & blankets, and pillows. We also have some sample toiletries for your use, as well. A washer and dryer are available for our guests to use during their stay. There is a laundromat nearby for large items like sleeping bags and quilts. Please bring your personal clothes and food if you are on a special diet.

What’s the weather like in your area?

Are medical and emergency facilities available close by in case of accident or illness?

Though we are in a rural area with no local hospital, we do have a very active, 24/7 Rescue & EMS Squad (Call 911). The closest hospital is 15 miles away and 24-hour medical attention (Urgent Care Clinic) is also available within a 45-minute drive. There is basic dental & optical care available as well within a 30-mile radius.
